EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the grandeur of the Mens Second Class entrance at St Pancras Public Baths, now known as the Kentish Town Sports Centre in Camden, Greater London. The heavily decorated entrance is a testament to the opulence and attention to detail that characterized Victorian architecture. Built in 1901, this historic building served as a hub for leisure and cleanliness. It featured two pools each for men and women, slipper baths, and a wash house. Over time, however, it fell into disrepair until its restoration in the early 21st century. After an extensive refurbishment project costing over £25 million, this architectural gem was brought back to its former glory. Completed in 2010, the restoration breathed new life into every intricate detail of this magnificent structure. The vibrant red brick walls adorned with gold accents create an elaborate contrast against the sandstone doorway and porch. This combination of materials adds depth and character to the overall design. Today, visitors can marvel at this restored masterpiece while enjoying various sports and recreational activities offered by Kentish Town Sports Centre. This photograph captures not only a moment frozen in time but also celebrates our ability to preserve history for future generations to appreciate.
