EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the charming village of Chagford in West Devon during the 1930s. The image captures a picturesque scene along Lower Street, where time seems to have stood still. As we gaze upon this historic lane, we are immediately drawn to Bishops House, which proudly stands in the right foreground. Its grandeur and architectural beauty make it an undeniable focal point of the photograph. The quaintness of this village is evident as we take in the view looking northwest along Lower Street. The narrow lane is lined with traditional stone buildings that exude character and charm. It's easy to imagine residents going about their daily lives amidst these idyllic surroundings. This snapshot from days gone by offers a glimpse into a simpler era, when life moved at a slower pace and communities were tightly knit. Dartmoor looms majestically in the distance, reminding us of nature's enduring presence even within such an enchanting human settlement. J Dixon Scott has masterfully captured not only a moment frozen in time but also the essence of Chagford itself - its rich history, its timeless beauty, and its undeniable allure. This print serves as both a window into our past and an invitation to explore this remarkable corner of England for ourselves.
