Birmingham International Airport, Elmdon, Birmingham, Bickenhill, Solihull, West Midlands. The information desk in the Eurohub terminal at Birmingham International Airport soon after its completion, with an overhead sign in the foreground.
The contract for the construction of a new terminal building at Birmingham International Airport started in September 1989. The Eurohub terminal formed part of a hub and spoke style airline operation, and combined domestic and international flights. It was served by British Airways and Birmingham European Airways. The building was constructed around a steel frame with concrete foundations. Across three floors were facilities for baggage handling, and passenger arrivals and departures. The contract was completed in June 1991 and the building was officially opened in October 1991. The terminal was later known as Terminal 2

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the interior of Birmingham Eurohub, located in the bustling Birmingham International Airport. Taken soon after its completion, the image showcases an information desk with a prominent overhead sign in the foreground. The construction of this new terminal building began in September 1989 and was part of a hub and spoke style airline operation that combined both domestic and international flights. British Airways and Birmingham European Airways served this state-of-the-art facility. Built on a sturdy steel frame with concrete foundations, the Eurohub terminal spanned across three floors, offering top-notch facilities for baggage handling as well as passenger arrivals and departures. The clean lines and streamlined design created an airy atmosphere within the terminal. After months of hard work, the contract was successfully completed in June 1991, followed by its official opening in October later that year. Over time, this remarkable terminal became known as Terminal 2. Transporting us back to the vibrant transport scene of the 1990s, this print from A© Historic England Archive not only showcases architectural excellence but also evokes a sense of nostalgia for those who have experienced or witnessed its grandeur firsthand.
