EDITORS COMMENTS

This aerial photo print, captured by the talented photographer Jim Hancock, takes us back in time to Worthy Farm in Somerset during the iconic Glastonbury Fair of 1971. This was only the second year that this legendary festival had been held at this picturesque location. Interestingly, its inaugural edition in 1970 was known as The Pilton Festival before being rebranded as The Glastonbury Festival. The image showcases the sprawling farm transformed into a vibrant and bustling event space, teeming with music enthusiasts from all walks of life. From above, we can see an array of colorful tents dotting the landscape, creating a kaleidoscope of excitement and anticipation. The air is filled with an electric energy as people gather to celebrate their shared love for music and art. This photograph not only captures a moment frozen in time but also serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of community and creativity that has come to define Glastonbury over the years. It reminds us of how festivals like these have become cultural touchstones where individuals can escape reality for a few days and immerse themselves in an atmosphere brimming with joy, unity, and self-expression. Jim Hancock's expertly composed shot allows us to appreciate both the grandeur of Worthy Farm itself and its transformation into something truly extraordinary during those magical days in 1971. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of history preserved through photography, we are reminded that some moments are simply too precious not to be immortalized forever.
