The original Grantham branch of Woolworths opened at 8 Market Place, but in 1957 relocated to new premises at 46 High Street. In order to accommodate the new store, three existing shops were demolished. The store closed in December 2008

This print captures a moment in time outside the newly opened premises of F W Woolworth and Company Limited on Grantham's High Street. The image showcases a bustling scene, with crowds of people gathered around the store, eager to explore its offerings. The original Grantham branch of Woolworths was initially located at 8 Market Place but relocated to these new premises in 1957. To make way for this grander establishment, three existing shops were demolished, making it clear that Woolworths was here to stay. Amongst the crowd are men and women dressed in fashionable attire for the era, some even riding bicycles as they go about their day. Sadly, this iconic store closed its doors in December 2008 after serving the community for several decades.
