EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a detailed floor plan of Alkmaar, also known as Alcmaer. The birds-eye view perspective allows us to appreciate the intricate layout and architectural beauty of this historic city. The print features several notable elements that add depth and character to the composition. On the top left corner, we can admire the coat of arms of Holland, symbolizing its significance within the province. In the center, a cartouche proudly displays the title "Floor plan of Alkmaar Alcmaer" emphasizing its importance. Moving towards the top right corner, we encounter another coat of arms - this time belonging to Alkmaar itself. This inclusion highlights the city's unique identity and local pride. As our eyes descend towards the bottom left section, two cartouches catch our attention with their beautifully written poems in Dutch and Latin respectively. These poetic additions infuse an artistic touch into this otherwise technical representation. Lastly, on the bottom right margin, we find numbering indicating it is one out of 50 maps depicting various cities along with their corresponding coats-of-arms - representing both provincial and municipal entities. Created by Pieter van der Keere in Amsterdam during either 1603 or 1612 using paper engraving techniques; this print stands as a testament to his skillful craftsmanship
