1694 28th 61st Foot Glos Gloucestershire Musketeer Possibly Regiment Studies Unsigned Volume

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning watercolor depicts a musketeer of the 28th Foot, as they appeared in 1694. The image is taken from the volume "Dress & Equipment of the Gloucestershire Regiment. 28th North Glos. 61st South Glos. 1694-1915," which contains 37 single figure studies in watercolor, unsigned but possibly by F. Stansell. The 28th Foot, also known as the North Gloucestershire Regiment and later the South Gloucestershire Regiment, was a British infantry regiment with a rich history that can be traced back to the late 17th century. The musketeer is shown wearing the distinctive uniform of the 28th Foot from this era, complete with a red coat, white waistcoat, and breeches, as well as a tricorn hat adorned with a feather and a band of white lace. He is also equipped with a musket, a bayonet, and a sword, all of which were essential tools of the infantryman during this period. The meticulous attention to detail in the watercolor brings the musketeer to life, allowing us to imagine the sights and sounds of the battlefield during the late 17th century. The use of watercolor adds a sense of depth and texture to the image, making it a valuable historical record and an impressive work of art in its own right. This watercolor provides a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering insight into the appearance and equipment of the soldiers who served in the 28th Foot during the late 17th century. It is a reminder of the rich history and tradition of the Gloucestershire Regiment and the important role it played in the British military.
