This photograph features two original cap badges from the service uniform of L/Cpl J R Dixon, who served with the 12th (County of London) Battalion of The London Regiment, also known as The Rangers, during World War I. The 12th (County of London) Battalion was a part of the famous London Regiment, which was formed in September 1914 as a response to Lord Kitchener's call for volunteers to the British Army. The Rangers, as they came to be known, were initially composed of men from the City of London and Middlesex.
