EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the distinguished figure of Claude Desire Barodet, a prominent French politician and historical figure of the late 19th century. Born in Lyon in 1823, Barodet began his career as a teacher before becoming deeply involved in the Republican movement. In 1872, he was elected Mayor of Lyon, a position he held for four years. During his tenure as Mayor, Barodet worked tirelessly to improve the city's infrastructure and promote education. He oversaw the construction of new schools and roads, as well as the expansion of the city's water and sewage systems. Barodet was also a dedicated Republican, and he worked to promote democratic values and protect the rights of the people. In 1873, Barodet was elected to represent Lyon in the National Assembly, where he served for three years. He continued to advocate for Republican ideals and worked to improve the lives of the people of Lyon and France as a whole. In 1876, he was re-elected to the Assembly, where he served until 1896. This photograph, taken in 1906, captures Barodet in the prime of his political career. Dressed in the formal attire of the time, he exudes a sense of confidence and authority. The photograph is a testament to Barodet's enduring legacy as a visionary leader and dedicated public servant. His contributions to the city of Lyon and the French Republic continue to be celebrated and remembered to this day.
