EDITORS COMMENTS
The Great Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops, is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids located in the Giza Necropolis, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. This architectural marvel, believed to have been constructed around 2580-2560 BC during the Old Kingdom period, serves as the tomb for the fourth-dynasty Pharaoh, Khufu. The pyramid's precise design and engineering have left historians and archaeologists in awe for centuries. The Great Pyramid is estimated to have been built from around 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing an average of 2.5-15 tons. The pyramid's original height was approximately 146.5 meters, making it the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. The pyramid's casing, which was covered in smooth, polished white limestone, has largely been removed, leaving the current height of 138.8 meters. The architectural mastermind behind the construction of the Great Pyramid is believed to be Hemiunu, who is also known as Hemon or Imhotep. Hemiunu is considered to be one of the greatest architects and mathematicians in history. His innovative use of geometry and mathematics in the design and construction of the pyramid is still studied by architects and engineers today. The Great Pyramid is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It continues to attract millions of visitors each year, who come to marvel at this ancient wonder and pay homage to the engineering and architectural prowess of the ancient Egyptians.
