Born in 1807, Wadsworth was a seasoned military veteran who had served in the Mexican-American War before answering the call to defend his country once more in 1861. Wadsworth's military career reached new heights during the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, where he commanded the Third Brigade of the Second Division, Third Corps. Tragically, Wadsworth's military accomplishments were cut short during the Battle of the Wilderness in May 1864.
