Lady Violet Brasseys sons, Cyril and Gerard
Delightful portrait of Cyril and Gerard Brassey, dressed in outfits typical of Edwardian upper class children. The older boy is in a wool jacket, similar to a Norfolk style jacket wiith matching waistcoat and breeches while the younger boy is wearing a very fanciful costume, consisting of side-buttoning tunic with flounced collar and cuffs worn with old style buckled shoes - very much in the Little Lord Fauntleroy style. Gerard, the younger one, was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards and was killed in action on the 27th August 1918. Date: 1903

EDITORS COMMENTS
This delightful portrait captures the essence of Edwardian childhood, as depicted in the charming image of Lady Violet Brassey's sons, Cyril and Gerard. The older brother, Cyril, is dressed in the height of fashion for upper class boys of the era, donning a Norfolk-style wool jacket with a matching waistcoat and breeches. His attire exudes an air of sophistication and refinement, reflecting the expectations of the Edwardian elite. In stark contrast, Gerard, the younger brother, is dressed in a fanciful and whimsical costume reminiscent of the beloved character, Little Lord Fauntleroy. His side-buttoning tunic features a flounced collar and cuffs, while his old-style buckled shoes add to the overall charm of the ensemble. The contrast between the two brothers' outfits highlights the distinct fashion trends of the time for boys of different ages. Sadly, Gerard's story took a tragic turn. He grew up to become a 2nd Lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards and was killed in action on the 27th of August, 1918. This poignant photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the innocence and promise of youth, forever frozen in time.
