EDITORS COMMENTS
by Worton David: A Vibrant and Patriotic Theatrical Production of the 1910s This promotional postcard showcases the lively and patriotic production of "Look Out" by Worton David, first produced at the Empire Newport on the 4th of October 1915, and later at Finsbury Park Empire on the 1st of November 1915. The tour then brought this popular revue to the New Theatre in Cambridge on the 11th of June 1917. The image on the postcard exudes the excitement and energy of the theatrical performance, with its bold typography and vivid colors. The title "Look Out" is prominently displayed, accompanied by the subtitle "A Revue in Three Acts - Book and Lyrics by Worton David; Music by Herman Darewski." The date "1917" and the tagline "First Produced at the Empire Newport" complete the announcement. The backdrop of World War I (ww1, WWI, World War) adds a historical context to this theatrical production. The 1910s were a time of great change and upheaval, and popular entertainment, such as pantomimes (panto) and revues (revues), provided a much-needed escape for the public. "Look Out" was a testament to the resilience and spirit of the era, showcasing the talent and creativity of its cast and crew. This postcard is a fascinating glimpse into the past, offering a glimpse into the theatrical landscape of the early 20th century. It serves as a reminder of the power of the arts to bring people together and provide a sense of hope and joy, even in the most challenging of times. Rights Managed from Mary Evans Prints Online.
