Once hailing from the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa, this vulnerable antelope species is depicted in its regal splendor, with its distinctive white coat and slender, spiral horns. The engraving, created by W. Panormo and based on an illustration by Horace S. Smith, is a testament to the intricate detail and artistry of the 19th century. It was produced for William Smellie's translation of Count Georges Buffon's renowned work, "History of the Earth and Animated Nature," published by Thomas Kelly in London in 1829.
