The Balm of Gilead, also known as Opobalsamum or Balsam of Mecca, is a small tree or shrub native to the Arabian Peninsula and Eastern Africa. Its resinous sap has been used for medicinal and religious purposes since ancient times. The Balm of Gilead tree is characterized by its small, oblong leaves and yellow or white flowers.
