Christmas at Windsor Castle 1846
Interesting engraving of Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle in the drawing- room, presenting gifts to her guests in 1846. The room was surrounded by several German Christmas trees nearly eight feet in height, placed in green stands, some frosted to resemble icicles and snow and others were beautifully ornamented with decorations and each tree brilliantly lighted with seventy-two wax candles and suspended with bon-bons, enclosed in tastefully ornamented bags and boxes for presents to guests.

EDITORS COMMENTS
A Magical Christmas at Windsor Castle in 1846: A Captivating Engraving of Queen Victoria and Her Guests Step back in time and experience the enchanting atmosphere of a Victorian Christmas at Windsor Castle, as depicted in this beautiful 1846 engraving by an unknown artist, now available as a print from Mary Evans Picture Library. The scene unfolds in the drawing-room of Windsor Castle, where Queen Victoria, resplendent in her regal attire, presents gifts to her esteemed guests. Surrounded by the warm glow of several German Christmas trees, nearly eight feet in height, the room is filled with the joy and wonder of the holiday season. The trees, standing in elegant green stands, are adorned with intricate decorations and ornaments. Some trees are artfully frosted to resemble icicles and snow, while others are tastefully bedecked with a dazzling array of bon-bons, enclosed in exquisitely ornamented bags and boxes. The trees are brilliantly illuminated by no less than seventy-two wax candles, suspended from their branches, casting a warm, inviting glow over the festive gathering. This image offers a glimpse into the early traditions of the British monarchy during the Christmas season. The German Christmas trees, which had only recently been introduced to the British Isles, were a novelty and added an air of excitement and wonder to the holiday celebrations. The use of candles, sweets, and decorations was a delightful departure from the more austere customs of the time, and the image of Queen Victoria presenting gifts to her guests adds a touch of regal charm to the scene. This enchanting print is a must-have for anyone interested in the history of Christmas, the Victorian era, or the early traditions of the British monarchy. Hang it in your home to add a touch of holiday magic and wonder to your own festive decor.
