Circa 1946, this aircraft was initially produced by Consolidated Aircraft Corporation for anti-submarine warfare duties during World War II. The Privateer, a long-range maritime patrol bomber, was a formidable addition to the US military arsenal, capable of carrying torpedoes and depth charges. However, the end of the war brought about a need for versatility in military aviation, and 66260, along with many other Privateers, was later repurposed for other roles. In this instance, it was converted into a tanker, adopting the designation 123.
