This handcoloured copperplate engraving, created by Sasso for Giulio Ferrario's Ancient and Modern Costumes of all the Peoples of the World published in Florence, Italy, in 1837, offers a rare glimpse into the daily life of the Aleut people in Unalaska during the early 19th century. The exterior of an underground Aleut house is depicted, nestled amidst the rugged terrain and lush vegetation.
