This evocative photograph captures the corner view of the General Havelock Public House, located in the heart of London Fields, London. The image transports us back in time to the 1930s, as the pub's red brick facade and ornate signage stand proud against the backdrop of a bustling urban scene. The General Havelock, a beloved local watering hole, was a fixture in the community for several decades. The reverse side of this print reveals the pub's trading record, detailing its history from 1934 to 1961. During this period, the Hoare and Company Limited, which did not operate the pub, leased the property. The pub, with its E8 3RL postal address, was a cherished gathering place for locals and travelers alike. Unfortunately, the General Havelock's story does not have a fairytale ending. By July 2018, the pub had been demolished, and the site was being converted to housing. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the pub's rich history and the sense of community it once provided. The General Havelock Public House may no longer exist, but its legacy lives on through images like this one, which capture a piece of London's past for future generations to appreciate.
