EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the corner facade of the Van Tromp Public House, located in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Bethnal Green in London. Established in the early 20th century, the Van Tromp PH was a cherished local watering hole for generations of East End residents. The building's distinctive red brick exterior, adorned with ornate white detailing, has stood the test of time, serving as a testament to the area's rich history. The back of this print reveals the pub's trading record, detailing its operation from 1934 to 1961. Over the years, the Van Tromp PH, like many establishments in the area, underwent various transformations. By July 2018, it had been renamed Lyons Corner, offering a new menu of food and beverages. However, by May 2017, the pub had been converted into a Benets of Cambridge Ice Cream shop. The ever-changing face of Bethnal Green continues to evolve, but the Van Tromp PH, immortalized in this photograph, remains an enduring symbol of the neighborhood's past. This photograph, taken by an unknown photographer, is a precious document of London's history and a reminder of the stories and memories that are etched into the city's fabric. The Van Tromp Public House, a beloved institution in Bethnal Green, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of those who have known it, and this image offers a glimpse into a bygone era.
