This evocative photograph captures the moment of camaraderie and determination between Lieutenant Turnor of the SGW (Special Reserve of the Great War) and Captain Sir F.S.G. Rose of the R Hussars (Royal Horse Guards) during the Battle of Zandvoorde in Ypres, Belgium, in 1914. The First Battle of Ypres, also known as the Battle of Ieper, marked one of the earliest major engagements of World War I and took place from October 19 to November 22, 1914.
