Born in 1819, Catherine was the eldest daughter of the 6th Earl of Harrington and Lady Catherine Greville. In 1831, she married George Augustus Frederick, 5th Duke of Cleveland, and became a prominent figure in British society. The photograph shows Catherine with a small dog on her lap, its ears perked up as it gazes at her affectionately. She is dressed elegantly in a high-necked blouse and a voluminous skirt, accessorized with a delicate brooch and a vase of flowers nearby.
