EDITORS COMMENTS
In this evocative image from the annals of early Christian history, we find Saint Eufrosyna, a courageous Roman martyr, flanked by her companions Saints Domitilla and Theodora. Dating back to the first century, this powerful trio of holy women embodies the unwavering faith and resilience of early Christian believers in the face of persecution. At the center stands Saint Eufrosyna, her serene expression betraying no hint of the suffering she endured. Known for her exceptional beauty, she was said to have been seized by the Roman authorities for her refusal to renounce her faith. Despite being subjected to brutal torture, she remained steadfast in her devotion to God. Ultimately, she was beheaded, earning her the title of martyr and securing her place in the annals of Christian history. To her left, we find Saint Domitilla, a noblewoman who, along with her sister Mariana, was converted to Christianity by the apostle Peter himself. Domitilla's unwavering faith led her to be imprisoned and subjected to various forms of torture. The story goes that she was eventually buried alive in a cave, where she lived as a hermit for the rest of her days. On the right, we have Saint Theodora, a Christian princess from Constantinople. She was married to the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II but chose to remain a virgin and dedicate her life to God. Her husband, however, grew suspicious of her piety and had her exiled to a monastery. Despite this, Theodora continued to live a devout life, eventually becoming the Abbess of the monastery. This hauntingly beautiful image serves as a poignant reminder of the unwavering faith and courage of these early Christian women, who defied the oppressive Roman Empire to follow their beliefs. Their stories continue to inspire and captivate us, reminding us of the power of faith and the enduring strength of the human spirit.
