VISUAL DESCRIPTION
The image shows a vintage advertisement titled "The Greatest World Flight" with the subheading citing "The Aeroplane, " dated 18/4/28. The ad features a letter from C. C. Wakefield & Co. , Ltd. , addressed to Capt. Costes and Lieut. le Brix, congratulating them on their successful flight around the world using CASTROL motor oil. Capt. Costes and Lieut. le Brix began their journey in Paris on October 10th, 1927, flying a Bréguet XIX Super-Bisson airplane (referred to as simply 'Bisson' in the text). They traveled across several continents including South America, North America, Asia, and back to Europe. Key highlights of their trip include crossing the South Atlantic Ocean from Saint Louis, Senegal to Natal, Brazil; traversing one of the most arduous parts of their journey over mountains and sea; continuing through South America; then heading northward into Central and North America before crossing over into Asia via Alaska. After reaching Tokyo on April 8th, they proceeded towards Calcutta where they landed on April 14th after overcoming challenging weather conditions during an overnight flight across China's mountain ranges. The letter emphasizes that throughout this remarkable feat—covering over 35, 000 miles in less than six months—their aircraft engine performed exceptionally well without any significant issues thanks to Castrol oil's resilience under varying temperatures and conditions. At the bottom of the advertisement is a slogan promoting Castrol Motor Oil: "All over the World when only the best will stand the test all use — WAKEFIELD. " Below it is information about C. C. Wakefield & Co. , Ltd. , located at Wakefield House in London.
