Princess Alice was born Princess Alice of Battenberg in 1885 in Windsor Castle, England. She was the eldest daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria of Hesse and by Rhine. In 1904, she married Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, who was then second in line to the British throne. However, following the sudden death of the Duke in 1928, she married his younger brother, the Duke of Gloucester, in 1935. Princess Alice was a favorite of the British public for her dainty features, gentle demeanor, and her unwavering loyalty to the monarchy. She was known for her elegant fashion sense and her love for horses and dogs.
