EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming photograph, taken circa 1925, we see the young Hon. George Henry Hubert Lascelles (later 7th Earl of Harewood) and Hon. Gerald David Lascelles, sons of Princess Mary and Henry Lascelles, 6th Earl of Harewood, playfully interacting with each other. The siblings, born in the 1920s, are dressed in fashionable attire typical of the era, with George wearing a short-sleeved shirt and Gerald donning a sweater and knickers. Their joyful expressions and playful pose convey the close bond between the brothers, who were known for their lively personalities and adventurous spirits. Princess Mary, the eldest and only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, was a beloved member of the British Royal Family. She married Henry Lascelles, the 6th Earl of Harewood, in 1922, and the couple went on to have three children: George, Gerald, and Sarah. The family resided at Harewood House in Yorkshire, which was known for its beautiful gardens and grandeur. The Hon. George Henry Hubert Lascelles later succeeded his father as the 7th Earl of Harewood in 1947 and played an active role in public life, serving as a Lord-in-Waiting to Queen Elizabeth II and as a Deputy Lieutenant of Yorkshire. He was also a patron of various charities and organizations. The Hon. Gerald David Lascelles, on the other hand, pursued a career in the military and served in the Royal Navy during World War II. He later worked in the family's estate business and was a prominent figure in the Yorkshire community. This photograph captures a moment in time, showcasing the loving relationship between these two brothers and the carefree spirit of their childhood. It serves as a reminder of the close bond that siblings share and the joy that can be found in the simplest of moments.
