EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful postcard captures the enchanting scene of the wedding of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and Duchess Cecilie of Mecklenburg-Schwerin on June 6, 1905, in Berlin, Germany. The young couple, Wilhelm (b. 1882) and Cecilie (b. 1886), are seen exchanging vows in the grandeur of their regal attire. Wilhelm, the eldest son of the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II, and his consort Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, is depicted in his Prussian military uniform, adorned with numerous medals and decorations. Cecilie, the beautiful duchess, is dressed in a stunning white wedding gown with intricate lace details and a long, flowing veil. Surrounding the couple are two flower girls, each carrying a basket of roses, adding a touch of playfulness and innocence to the scene. Above the heads of the bride and groom, cherubim or cherubs, symbols of love and divine protection, are depicted among the clouds and amongst the roses. The year 1905 is inscribed at the bottom left corner of the postcard, reminding us of the era in which this romantic moment took place. This image, created by Grenville Collins, transports us back to a time of elegance, love, and tradition in the early 1900s. The delicate pink roses, the intricate details of the wedding attire, and the cherubs in the sky all contribute to the timeless beauty and charm of this wedding photograph.
