EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases Douglas B-26B Invader N202PP (msn 27847, ex 44-34568), a historic military aircraft with an intriguing past. Originally built as a Douglas A-26B-61-DL Invader for the United States Army Air Force in 1945, it was later redesignated as a B-26B in 1948 and placed into storage in 1950. In 1955, the Invader was delivered to the French Air Force as 44-34568, serving with Groupe de Bombardement 1/19 Gascogne in Tourane, Vietnam, under the radio callsign F-UHIU. After a brief return to the USAF in 1955, the aircraft was used by Purolator Products in New York from 1959 to 1963. In June 1965, N202PP was operated by Trans Atlantic Airlines in Frankfurt, West Germany. However, its history took a turn for the worse in August 1965 when it was impounded in Karachi, Pakistan for gun-running. The Invader then spent time with J. P. O'Connor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from 1966 to 1969. From 1970 to 2000, the aircraft was owned by M. Anwar Khan in Karachi, Pakistan, and was later withdrawn from use and put into open storage. In 2004, N202PP found a new home at the Pakistan Air Force Museum in Faisal AB, where it remains on display as a testament to its rich and varied history in military aviation.
