EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage photograph showcases Fleet Super Bonanza N174SV (MSN SV115), a twin-engined conversion of the iconic Beech Model 35 Bonanza. Originally built as a single-engine aircraft with the manufacturer's serial number D-422 in 1947, this Bonanza underwent a significant transformation in the late 1950s. Bay Aviation, previously known as Oakland Airmotive, spearheaded the conversion of nine Bonanzas before selling the rights, design, and tooling to Fleet Aircraft in Canada. In March 1963, this specific aircraft, initially registered as N772MD, was completed as part of the five conversions carried out by Fleet Aircraft. Throughout its service life, N174SV experienced several incidents. In February 1964, it sustained substantial damage in a non-fatal crash in Maryland due to the deflation of the nose wheel strut. The aircraft was repaired and later registered as NC3018V, N1T, N9935R, and N147SV. In 1975, the Bonanza was involved in another non-fatal accident, colliding with fence posts. Tragically, its final days came on May 30, 1975, when it was destroyed in a fatal accident at Omak, Washington. This photograph, estimated to date from around 1972, captures the timeless elegance and power of the Fleet Super Bonanza N174SV, a testament to the rich history of aviation and the enduring allure of the Beech Bonanza.
