Delivered to the RAF in March 1954, this particular Pembroke was a mainstay of the service for over two decades. The Percival Pembroke was a versatile twin-engine turboprop transport aircraft, which was used extensively for various roles including VIP transport, maritime patrol, and electronic intelligence gathering. The image shows WV729 taxying along a grass runway, its powerful engines creating a plume of smoke as it prepares for takeoff. The aircraft's distinctive shape, with its high wing and tailfin, is accentuated by the contrast between the dark aircraft and the bright, sunlit sky behind. The RAF roundel and serial number can be clearly seen on the fuselage, adding to the sense of history and tradition.
