This stunning Gothic miniature painting, found on Folio 52v of the Llibre de Franqueses i Privilegis del Regne de Mallorca (1334-1339), depicts Peter I, Count of Urgell (1187-1255). Born as an Infante of Portugal, Peter later became the Count of Urgell from 1229 to 1231. His most notable achievement, however, was his role as the first lord of Mallorca from 1236 until his death in 1255. Peter I is depicted here in an upright, vertical position, dressed in rich robes and adorned with a crown and a scepter. His regal attire and serious expression convey his authority and power. The vibrant colors and intricate details of the painting are characteristic of the Gothic art style prevalent during the Middle Ages in Europe.
