This photograph showcases an exhibit of the early Cretaceous Period dinosaur, Psittacosaurus, at a museum in China. Hailing from Asia, Psittacosaurus is a small, herbivorous dinosaur that belonged to the Ceratopsia order, a group of ceratopsian dinosaurs characterized by their distinctive frilled skulls. Psittacosaurus, meaning "parrot lizard," is named for the parrot-like beak and feather-like structures on its body. This dinosaur was bipedal, meaning it walked on two legs, and grew up to 1.5 meters in length. Psittacosaurus is considered an important transitional fossil between non-ceratopsian dinosaurs and true ceratopsians, making it a significant find in the study of dinosaur evolution. Psittacosaurus is part of the larger group of archosauriformes, which includes both dinosaurs and birds. This group is characterized by their diapsid skulls, which have two openings on each side of the skull for the passage of the temporal artery. The dinosauria, a subgroup of archosauriformes, are further characterized by their reptilian features, such as scales and a four-chambered heart. The cerapoda, another subgroup of dinosauria, includes the dinosauromorpha, which are dinosaurs that are more closely related to birds than to other dinosaurs. The genasauria, a subgroup of cerapoda, includes the ceratopian dinosaurs, which includes Psittacosaurus.
