EDITORS COMMENTS
RMS Moldavia, a proud vessel of the P&O Line, gracefully rests in the tranquil waters of Dover harbor during the 1910s. The Royal Mail Ship, a symbol of maritime prowess and historical significance, bears the coat of arms and motto of the Pacific and Oriental Steam Navigation Company. The Latin phrase "quis separabit," meaning "what will separate us," encircles the crest, reflecting the company's commitment to connecting people across vast oceans. The Moldavia, launched in 1891, was a testament to the engineering feats of the era. With a tonnage of over 7,000 gross register tons, she could carry up to 1,500 passengers and crew. Her luxurious accommodations, fine dining, and elegant ballroom made her a popular choice for transatlantic voyages. The ship's proud history includes several notable achievements. In 1894, she set a record for the fastest eastbound crossing of the Atlantic, completing the journey in just 12 days, 18 hours, and 45 minutes. During World War I, she was requisitioned by the British Admiralty and used as a troopship. After the war, she returned to her commercial duties, continuing to serve the P&O Line until her retirement in 1922. This photograph captures a moment in time, a glimpse into the past, when the RMS Moldavia, with her grandeur and historical significance, was a familiar sight in the picturesque harbor of Dover.
