1952 Anson Avro Woodford

EDITORS COMMENTS
This striking photograph captures the historic moment when Avro Anson T21 WJ561, the last production Anson aircraft, soared over Woodford Aerodrome on 15 May 1952. The Avro Anson, a versatile and much-loved British aircraft, had been in production since the late 1930s and saw service in various roles during World War II. By the early 1950s, however, it was being phased out in favor of more modern aircraft. In this image, we see WJ561, resplendent in its final livery, as it prepares to leave the production line for the last time. The Avro Anson was a stalwart of the Royal Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force, and its retirement marked the end of an era for this iconic aircraft. The Avro Anson was a versatile transport plane, capable of performing various roles, including training, communication, and maritime patrol. Its rugged design and reliability made it a favorite among pilots and crews, and it continued to serve in various capacities long after its retirement from the military. As WJ561 flew over Woodford Aerodrome on that fateful day in May 1952, it marked the end of an era for the Avro Anson. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the aircraft's storied history and its enduring legacy in the annals of aviation history.
