Attacker Supermarine

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the first naval Supermarine Attacker TS413, a significant milestone in the history of naval aviation. The Supermarine Attacker, also known as the Sea Hurricane, was a British single-engine, carrier-borne fighter and attack aircraft, primarily used during the Second World War. TS413, registration number N3210, was the very first prototype of this versatile aircraft, which was designed to meet the Royal Navy's requirement for a carrier-borne fighter capable of both defensive combat and ground-attack missions. The aircraft was a modification of the successful Supermarine Spitfire, featuring a larger wing and a more powerful engine to accommodate the added weight and capabilities. In this image, TS413 is seen taxing on the deck of a British aircraft carrier, likely HMS Illustrious or HMS Victorious, with its distinctive propeller churning up the water. The aircraft's powerful presence and the carrier's vast expanse create a sense of raw power and determination, reflecting the importance of naval aviation in defending the United Kingdom during wartime. The Supermarine Attacker proved to be a valuable asset to the Royal Navy, serving in various theaters of the war, including the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific. Its successor, the Sea Hurricane Mark IIB, became the most produced British naval aircraft of the war, with over 1,200 examples produced. This photograph is a testament to the ingenuity and resilience of the British aircraft industry during the Second World War and serves as a reminder of the crucial role that naval aviation plays in protecting nations and maintaining peace and security on the high seas.
