He qualified as a surgeon in 1841 and began his career as a house surgeon at the same hospital. In 1845, he was appointed as a surgeon to the Westminster Hospital, a position he held for the next 35 years. Paget's pioneering work in the field of pathology led to the discovery of Paget's disease, a condition characterized by abnormal bone growth. He also made significant contributions to the understanding of breast cancer, identifying the importance of the sentinel lymph node in the spread of the disease. Paget's surgical expertise was widely recognized, and he was appointed as the surgeon to Queen Victoria in 1853. He was knighted in 1887 for his services to medicine, becoming Sir James Paget.
