Forcible feeding was a common tactic used against Suffragettes who went on hunger strike while imprisoned for protesting for their right to vote. The authorities believed that by force-feeding them, they could break the women's will and end their protests. However, this brutal practice sparked widespread public outrage and further fueled the Suffragettes' cause. In response to the forcible feeding of Suffragettes, the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) proposed the idea of a Suffragette Forcible Feeding insurance. This insurance would provide financial compensation to women who were subjected to this inhumane treatment.
