EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the first locomobile, or portable steam engine, produced by the Rudolf Wolf Maschinenfabrik in Magdeburg-Buckau, Germany, in 1862. The Lokomobile, as it was called, was designed to power threshing machines, making agricultural work more efficient. The image captures the essence of the industrial revolution in Europe during the 19th century, as horses pull the machine to its destination. The locomobile's flywheel shaft, mounted at the front, is equipped with a belt pulley that transfers the engine's power to the threshing machine. This remarkable invention was in use from 1862 to 1887 on a farm near Strassfurt. The Lokomobile represents a significant milestone in the history of engineering and technology, paving the way for more advanced steam-powered machinery. Today, this historical artifact is preserved at the Deutsches Museum in Munich, a testament to Germany's rich industrial heritage.
