EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the grandeur of the USA's The World Building, located in the heart of New York City around the turn of the 20th century. Constructed between October 10, 1889, and December 10, 1890, at 53-63 Park Row, this architectural marvel was a sight to behold. Known also as the Pulitzer Building, after its owner, Joseph Pulitzer, the building's height was claimed to be 20 stories, although by today's standards, it would be considered around 16 or 18 stories tall. The New York World Building, a symbol of the city's progress and innovation, was a significant addition to the New York skyline. Its unique design, with a dome that housed Pulitzer's private office, offered a bird's-eye view of the bustling streets below. The building's construction marked an era of growth and development in New York City, and its completion was a cause for celebration. This photograph, part of the Box 160 Modern New York collection, offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back in time to the early 1900s and the impressive World Building that once stood tall on the corner of Park Row and the now-closed Frankfort Street. This image is a testament to the architectural prowess of the time and the vision of its creator, Joseph Pulitzer.
