Fashion 1960s. The taming of teddy. It seems that the Wizard of Wimbledon fashions

Fashion 1960s. The taming of teddy. It seems that the Wizard of Wimbledon fashions, the Terrible Teddy Tinling, has finally been tamed. Colonel Tinling, who has been well known in the best-dressed tennis circles since he first popped Goregous Gussie Moran into a pair of lace bloomers about 19 years ago, is now turning somewhat " trade" as can be seen from the white-clad tennis trio pictured here on Friday (21-6-68). Leaving behind him such former flights of fancy as see-through plastic midriffs, red tights and shocking-pink panties, Colonel Tinling has concentrated this season on the kind of nice little tennis frocks that could offend no one. After all, the skirt worn by Italys Lea Pericoli (left), the strip of computer data decorating British Number 1 Ann Joness dress (center), and the wrap-over that Brazils Maria Bueno is wearing (right) are not destined to ruin anyones overarm stroke. Perhaps the time has come in this era of His and Hers fashions for Colonel Tinling, an extremely fancy dresser himself, to consider entering the menswear field. How about some interesting outfits for Rod Laver or Ken Rosewall?. June 1968 P017571

EDITORS COMMENTS
Capturing the essence of 1960s fashion, this print titled 'Fashion 1960s. The taming of Teddy' showcases the transformation of renowned tennis fashion designer Colonel Teddy Tinling. Known for his avant-garde creations that pushed boundaries, Colonel Tinling has now embraced a more refined and traditional approach to tennis attire. In this image from June 1968, we see three elegant ladies donning white tennis outfits designed by Colonel Tinling himself. Gone are the days of transparent plastic midriffs and vibrant pink undergarments; instead, he focuses on creating tasteful and timeless ensembles that enhance rather than distract from the game. Italian player Lea Pericoli's skirt exudes gracefulness while British Number 1 Ann Jones sports a dress adorned with computer data patterns – a nod to the technological advancements of the era. Brazilian player Maria Bueno completes the trio with her chic wrap-over outfit. As these women confidently display their stylish yet practical attire, one cannot help but wonder if it is time for Colonel Tinling to venture into menswear as well. With his penchant for extravagant dressing, perhaps he could create intriguing outfits for legendary male players like Rod Laver or Ken Rosewall. This photograph transports us back in time when fashion was evolving rapidly alongside societal changes. It serves as a reminder that even in sports, style can be an expression of individuality and creativity.
