Fokker F. VIIA G-EBTS The Spider - 1929 - was the old Princess Xenia having been renamed

Fokker F.VIIA G-EBTS The Spider - 1929 - was the old Princess Xenia having been renamed after being bought by Mary, Duchess of Bedford. She called it The Spider after the legend, which inspired Robert Bruce - to try, try and try again.
Flown by Flt. Lt. Charles Barnard, with Robert F Little as co-pilot and navigator they, along with the Duchess, set off from Lympne in Kent on 2 August and arrived back in Croydon on the 9 August; the last leg from Sofia taking thirteen and a quarter hours. This proved that a flight to India and back could be done in eight days.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic Fokker F. VIIA G-EBTS, affectionately known as The Spider, soaring through the skies in 1929. This remarkable aircraft holds a fascinating history, having once been named Princess Xenia before being acquired by Mary, Duchess of Bedford. Inspired by the legend that motivated Robert Bruce to persevere, she renamed it The Spider. On August 2nd, accompanied by Flt. Lt. Charles Barnard and co-pilot/navigator Robert F Little, the determined Duchess embarked on an extraordinary journey from Lympne in Kent. Their ambitious mission was to prove that a flight to India and back could be accomplished within eight days. After an awe-inspiring adventure spanning numerous destinations and challenges along the way, including a thirteen-and-a-quarter-hour final leg from Sofia, they triumphantly returned to Croydon on August 9th. Their successful expedition shattered previous records and showcased the immense possibilities of aviation during this era. The photograph serves as a testament to human resilience and determination in pursuit of exploration and achievement. It immortalizes not only The Spider but also those who dared to dream big and push boundaries in aviation history. Preserved through time with impeccable detail by Mirrorpix's Memory Lane Prints collection, this image invites us into an era where flight was still considered miraculous—an era when brave individuals like Mary du Caurroy Duchess of Bedford defied limitations for progress and discovery.
