James Park, the Coventry fine-art dealer who left his his Corporation Street store
James Park, the Coventry fine-art dealer who left his his Corporation Street store because of the high rent, has found another city centre site at a third of the cost. Mr Parks new shop, which is almost the same size as his old premises, is a reconstructed Tudor building in Spon Street, which was officially opened by Hammer Horror film star, Veronica Carlson. " I had been in the Corporation Street premises for 15 years but I moved because of the rent there. This new place is central and is in keeping with the type of goods we do, " said Mr Park. His old store was rented from the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers, but, his new shop is owned by Coventry Corporation, who have reconstructed the building as part of the townscape scheme. Among exhibits on display at the opening event were some painting by Miss Carlson, a former art student, who now lives in Coventry, and who still spends much of her time painting.

This print captures James Park, the renowned Coventry fine-art dealer, standing proudly in front of his newly opened shop on Spon Street. After leaving his previous store on Corporation Street due to exorbitant rent prices, Mr. Park has found solace in this reconstructed Tudor building at a fraction of the cost. The grand opening was graced by none other than Hammer Horror film star Veronica Carlson, who cut the ribbon and added a touch of glamour to the event. Having spent 15 years at his former location, Mr. Park expressed his satisfaction with this new central spot that perfectly complements the type of goods he specializes in. Previously rented from the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers, this historic building is now owned by Coventry Corporation as part of their visionary townscape scheme. The opening showcased an array of exquisite exhibits including paintings by Miss Carlson herself - a talented artist who once pursued art studies and currently resides in Coventry. This snapshot freezes a moment in time when art enthusiasts gathered to celebrate creativity and witness Mr. Park's triumphant relocation. Preserved through Wes Howard's lens, this print serves as a testament to resilience and adaptability within Coventry's artistic community while immortalizing an important milestone for James Park Fine Art Gallery on its journey through history.
