Three Kirkheaton girls added to the holiday fun of other youngsters when they organised
Three Kirkheaton girls added to the holiday fun of other youngsters when they organised Fun for Free mornings. Twelve-year-old Sarah Stephens, Emma Chambers (8) and Louise Mulivhill (10) organised hour-long sessions or painting and craft work on two mornings this week. They paid for the materials which children used from their own pocket money and with help from parents. They made posters advertising the event, which was held in the garage of Sarahs home. The idea of the sessions came from an activity morning about giants which the girls went to in Kirkheaton library. They had such a good time that they decided to organise something similar themselves. 28th August 1990

Capturing the essence of youthful generosity and creativity, this print showcases three spirited Kirkheaton girls who brought an extra dose of holiday joy to their fellow youngsters. Sarah Stephens, Emma Chambers, and Louise Mulivhill took it upon themselves to organize Fun for Free mornings, where children could immerse themselves in painting and craft work. With a heartwarming display of initiative, these young leaders funded the materials from their own pocket money and enlisted the support of parents. The event was held in the welcoming confines of Sarah's garage, transformed into a hub of artistic exploration. The trio diligently crafted eye-catching posters to spread word about their endeavor—a brainchild inspired by a captivating activity morning centered around giants at Kirkheaton library. Enthralled by that experience, they were determined to recreate something equally magical for others. This snapshot from August 28th, 1990 encapsulates an era when children embraced hands-on activities during school holidays—unplugged entertainment that fostered imagination and camaraderie amongst peers. It serves as a reminder that even at such tender ages, compassion knows no bounds; these young girls exemplify selflessness through their efforts.
