The scene of an Air Raid in Exeter, Devon. World war Two

The scene of an Air Raid in Exeter, Devon. World war Two. Scene of a bomb strike in which a Morrison shelter was flung 46 feet into a neighbouring house, saving the family inside. Arrow shows the 46 foot line of flight taken by the Morrison shelter.
The term Exeter Blitz refers to the air raids by the German Luftwaffe on the British city of Exeter, Devon, during the Second World War. The city was bombed in April and May 1942 as part of the so-called " Baedeker raids", in which targets were chosen for their cultural and historical, rather than their strategic or military, value.
***note to editors, the name Collard & Son appears on the bombed out building. As of 2020 this near same name (k Collard & Son) appears on the internet in the nearby Somerset area. And so might trace back to the same company in this picture from 1942***

EDITORS COMMENTS
This powerful print captures the aftermath of an air raid in Exeter, Devon during World War Two. The devastating scene reveals a bomb strike that propelled a Morrison shelter an incredible 46 feet into a neighboring house, ultimately saving the lives of the family inside. The arrow in the image highlights the exact path taken by this life-saving shelter. Known as the Exeter Blitz, these air raids were carried out by the German Luftwaffe as part of their Baedeker raids strategy. Unlike other targets chosen for strategic or military reasons, Exeter was selected due to its rich cultural and historical significance. Notably, this photograph includes a bombed-out building with the name "Collard & Son" visible. Interestingly enough, there is evidence suggesting that a similar company named "k Collard & Son" exists today in Somerset, possibly tracing back to this very establishment depicted in 1942. Taken around May 1st, 1942, this picture serves as a haunting reminder of the destruction and resilience experienced during one of history's darkest periods. It stands as a testament to both human tragedy and survival amidst conflict.
