Navy Cut mixed brands, 1924=25

Players Navy Cut tobacco fold-out counter card. The top of the card resembles a hoop which surrounds half-length figures of three navel officers. From their insignia they seem to be an lieutenant, a commander and an admiral. All three are smoking pipes. The base pulls forward and is decorated with packs of White Label, Gold Leaf, Medium and Tawny tobacco. In the bottom right hand corner is a staple. The text reads " PLAYERs NAVY CUT // WHITE LABEL. GOLD LEAF. MEDIUM. TAWNY." On the reverse, attached to the hoop is a piece of card, suggesting that something hung from it. At the base is a support to allow the card to pull forward and stand upright. There is a rubber stamp which reads " JOHN PLAYER & SONS // STORES ADVERTISING // GARDEN ST."

EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print showcases a fascinating piece of advertising history - the Players Navy Cut tobacco fold-out counter card from 1924-25. The top of the card features an intricate hoop design, framing three half-length figures of naval officers. From their insignia, it can be deduced that they represent different ranks - a lieutenant, a commander, and an admiral. All three gentlemen are depicted enjoying their pipes. The base of the card is adorned with packs of various tobacco brands including White Label, Gold Leaf, Medium, and Tawny. A staple in the bottom right-hand corner adds to its authenticity. On the reverse side, attached to the hoop structure is another piece of card suggesting something once hung from it. To allow for easy display and upright positioning, a support at the base ensures stability when pulled forward. An interesting detail on this artifact is a rubber stamp reading "John Player & Sons // Stores Advertising // Garden St". This provides insight into both the manufacturer and location associated with this advertisement. Not only does this print offer glimpses into Nottingham's rich advertising heritage but also highlights elements such as uniforms, sailing imagery, telescopes symbolizing exploration at sea scapes or sailor life while emphasizing packaging aesthetics related to tobacco products.
