Chysauster, New Mill, Penzance, Cornwall. 1920s
Three men sitting on stones at the site of the ancient village of Chysauster, New Mill, Penzance. One of the gentleman is sporting a checked knickerbocker suit. Chysauster Ancient Village is a late Iron Age and Romano-British settlement of courtyard houses which is currently in the care of English Heritage. The village included eight to ten houses, each with its own internal courtyard. To the south east of the village is the remains of a fogou, an underground structure of uncertain function. The man on the right bears a resemblance to the Antiquarian Thomas Francis George Dexter (c. 1860-1933). Photographer: Unknown.
