The Basset Monument, built in 1836, on Carn Brea with adjoining rock outcrop. The 90 foot high granite monument was erected in memory of Francis Basset of Tehidy. He received his peerage as Baron de Dunstanville in 1780 for marching his miners to Plymouth where they made the marine fortifications safe during the French and Spanish Armada of 1779.
