EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the vibrant Fish Market in Padstow, Cornwall, in the year 1968. The image captures a general view of the rear of the fish market and showcases The Lindsey Boat Co. Ltd. , boat builders, proudly displaying their craftsmanship. Two boats named Dove and Newquay steal the spotlight with their elegant presence. The historical significance of this location becomes evident as we learn that it was once home to the old railway station. Even today, remnants of its past can be seen on the right side of the frame - a glimpse into an era when trains would transport goods from this very spot. Photographed by Charles Woolf, this snapshot beautifully encapsulates Cornish fishing industry at its peak. It is a testament to both tradition and progress; where hardworking fishermen brought their daily catch for auction while skilled boat builders crafted vessels that would brave treacherous waters. The composition exudes authenticity and nostalgia, transporting viewers back in time to witness firsthand the bustling atmosphere filled with joyce and greenham - sounds synonymous with such lively markets. This print serves as a visual reminder of Cornwall's rich maritime heritage, capturing not only moments frozen in time but also preserving memories for generations to come.
