EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the charming village of St Just in Penwith, Cornwall, in the year 1967. The focal point of this snapshot is none other than the iconic Wellington Hotel, proudly standing tall at Market Square (or Commercial Square). Its grand presence exudes a sense of history and warmth that only such old-world establishments can possess. As we gaze upon this image, our eyes are drawn along the street towards Andys Gift Shop and Angwin Brothers' butchers on the right. These quaint little shops add a touch of local charm to the scene, inviting passersby to explore their treasures or indulge in some freshly cut meats. On the left side of this picturesque square lies Warren and Son bakers and confectioners. Even though only part of it is visible in this frame, one can almost imagine the heavenly aroma wafting from its doors as delicious treats are being prepared with love and care. Captured by photographer Charles Woolf, this photograph beautifully encapsulates a moment frozen in time - an era where village life thrived amidst these historic buildings. It transports us back to simpler times when locals would gather at The Wellington Hotel for lively conversations over pints or enjoy hearty meals after a long day's work. With its stunning composition showcasing Cornish architecture at its finest, this print serves as both a nostalgic reminder for those who remember St Just's past glory days and an enchanting glimpse into history for those discovering it anew.
