EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the early 1900s, capturing a glimpse of the bustling book-binding room at Blackfords printing works in Truro, Cornwall. The building itself, originally known as The Great House and built by the Gregor family, stands proudly at the corner of Quay Street and Princes Street. In this snapshot of history, we see a diverse group of staff members diligently working together. Men, women, and even young girls are all present in this busy space dedicated to preserving knowledge through bookbinding. On the right-hand side of the image, a stack of beautifully bound books rests on a table – a testament to their craftsmanship. The identity of the photographer remains unknown; however, their skillful composition allows us to appreciate both the people involved in this industry and the machinery that powered it. This photograph offers an invaluable insight into Cornwall's rich industrial heritage.
